Let’s not pretend that any of us are going to start wearing real clothes to work from home for 2021. There are a lot of resolutions I’m willing to make (and discard) for the sake of a new calendar year, but if it’s not broken, let’s not try to fix it, right?
Or, as someone more successful once said, ‘you gotta know when to hold em, know when to fold em, when to buy new joggers, turn the computer on.’
This post is dedicated entirely to comfy things from Aerie, which was cool when I was in college and is cool again now that my life (again) revolves around sitting in front of my laptop with glasses, a weird bun, and too much coffee. Happy January! Back to work! But first – new loungewear! Onward!
01/ Let us discuss the age of tradition of slapping kids into waffle knit costumes to keep them warm and calling it cute. Did anyone else’s parents do this growing up? We had a tiny tiny house with a horrible lack of insulation and every winter we’d get burrito’ed into bed in these super tight and slightly itchy long john pajama things. These joggers are going to keep you warm but not too warm, and they’re way cuter than what you may have had to suffer through as a child. (54 five-star reviews can’t be wrong and they’re 50% off right now!)
02/ Trying to find something that you can curl up into while simultaneously achieving your life-long dream of becoming a turtle? Me too. I have this in the shade ‘relic’ (linked) which hides coffee spills remarkably well and is also a good length for covering your butt (literally, but also maybe metaphorically).
03/ I could never in a million years pull this knitted jumpsuit off but it might be worth a try when it comes to hiding my chocolate chip sins of the past week. Are you camp soft and chewy chocolate chip, or camp thin and crispy? If you’re with me in camp chewy try these babies on for size (and then get the jumpsuit. Or maybe get the suit, then the cookies?)
04/ Like to pretend that leggings are more like ‘real pants’ than joggers or sweatpants? Me too. These are also great for working out in, or making cookies in, depending on the theme of your day. I like a black legging as a general rule, but these are so nice you may have to make an exception for grey, or purple. You know what they say, don’t let your dreams be dreams.
05/ This oversized sweater is not technically loungewear but it is on sale, and it could possibly pass for a dress if you’ve got some nice opaque tights and boots to go with it. Yes? Yes.
06/ Last but not least, an honorable mention to the trend I didn’t see lasting a season, let alone a year: the sherpa pullover. It’s taken me a long time to come around to these magical fluffy things, but here we are, starting a new year with one I absolutely love. Sorry not sorry. All aboard the bandwagon!
In all seriousness, I hope you had a great start to 2021. If not great, then good and intentional. Treat yourself kindly, with grace, and extend that same grace to everyone around you when you can. Hug your puppies, wear the soft pants, and I’ll see you back here soon.
